Real American Hero

Five-year-old Davey's Dad is in the Air Force and has served in Iraq and Saudi Arabia.  Recently he had this to say to his Mom.  Caution...may cause you to tear up!

"Hey Mom, G.I. Joe is a real American hero...just like Dad!"

On a Mission

My 16-year-old son Jarrod has been gone on our church mission trip for only 24 hours, but it just doesn't seem the same here at home without him. His dad and I dropped him off.  All the youth were huddled around their sleeping bags, duffel bags thrown over their shoulders waiting to load the bus.  The youth director asked Jarrod to load the drinks in the cooler and bring the snacks on to the bus.  Four minutes later when he returned to his spot he looked at me and said, "This is too much work."  So...

I would like to wish my boy luck as he spends a week in 100 degree temperatures repairing houses and caring for children of those who are struggling in a depressed area of the U.S.  Although THAT will be ALOT OF WORK I am incredibly proud of him for giving up one of his last weeks of summer to share some of God's love.  Love you, Jarrod.

22 YEARS OLD AND YET SO WISE....

Our 22-year-old niece just posted a picture of her 18 year old cousin (who just happens to be our girl Jerilyn) dancing with her dance team. The caption read: I don't tell you enough how proud I am of you!

How sweet is that?

YOUNG AUTHORS

Spent a wonderful night celebrating over four hundred YOUNG AUTHORS in our school district. I am very proud of each and every author who took the initative to write their thoughts down on paper and "publish" a book. That takes guts.

Jae, our eight-year-old, diligently worked on her book entitled MY BOOK OF NOT SO TRUE FAIRY TALES. Her book had four chapters with 22 pages. Obviously I think she is a talented writer. Her words really flow on the page. All her TALES were wonderful, but here is an excerpt from my favorite page:

I dedicate this book to my funny and sensitive brother Jerremy for being there when I need him. Big brother is away at college studying journalism.

He is our oldest---months away from 21(Yikes!)--and she is our youngest. Although they are 12 years apart, they are always close in their hearts. I LOVE THAT!
